or drop them here

HEIC and HEIF photos from iPhone, iPad and Android phones. JPG, PNG and other images work too.

How it works

A HEIC to JPG converter turns the HEIC photos an iPhone takes into JPG files that open everywhere: Windows, Android, websites, email and older apps. This one decodes and converts each photo inside your browser, so your photos never leave your device.

  1. Add your photos

Choose or drop HEIC files, as many as you like, on a computer or a phone.

  2. Keep JPG or pick PNG

JPG at 90% quality suits almost every photo. PNG is lossless but several times larger.

  3. Convert and download

Save each JPG on its own, or all of them in one ZIP file.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the High Efficiency Image Container: a HEIF image compressed with HEVC (H.265), the same codec iPhones use for video. Apple made it the default photo format with iOS 11 in 2017 because it stores a photo in about half the space of a JPG of similar quality. Windows needs an extra extension to open it, many websites and older apps reject it, and most browsers cannot display it, so JPG is the safe choice for sharing.

What the converter keeps

  • The picture, upright: photos taken in portrait are turned the right way in the pixels, so they look right in every app.
  • The date taken and camera details: kept in the JPG by default, so your photos stay in order in Google Photos, Windows Photos and other apps. The location is removed unless you choose to keep it.
  • True colors: iPhones record in the wide Display P3 color space. When your browser does not convert the colors itself, the tool stores the photo's color profile in the JPG or PNG, so colors look the same as on your iPhone. It also reads the brightness range each photo declares, so highlights and shadows keep their detail instead of turning harsh.
  • The full resolution: a 12-megapixel photo stays 4032 by 3024 pixels unless you set a maximum width or height.

Where your photos go

Nowhere. The page loads its HEIC decoder from airusk.com once, then decodes and converts your photos inside this browser tab. No photo is sent to a server, and closing the tab clears everything. To check, open your browser's developer tools, choose the Network tab and convert a photo: no upload appears.

No limits, except your device

There is no cap on the number of photos or their size, and no watermark. Most browsers need several seconds to decode each HEIC photo, so a large batch takes a while; you can start converting while the rest are still being read. On a phone, convert a few hundred photos in smaller groups.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG for free?

Choose or drop your HEIC photos above, keep JPG selected and click Convert. Then download each JPG, or all of them as one ZIP. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of photos.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The photos are decoded and converted inside your browser tab, so they never leave your device. That makes the tool safe for private photos. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab: no request carries your photos.

Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC by default because the format stores the same picture in about half the space of a JPG. Windows, many Android apps, websites and older programs cannot open HEIC files, which is why people convert them to JPG before sharing or uploading them.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

Very little. JPG uses lossy compression, but at the default 90% quality the difference is not visible in normal viewing, and the photo keeps its full resolution. The JPG is usually larger than the HEIC file. For a lossless copy, choose PNG, which keeps every pixel but makes much larger files.

Does the JPG keep the date and location of my photo?

By default the JPG keeps the date taken and the camera details from the HEIC photo, and the location is removed. Under Photo details you can keep the location too, or remove every detail. PNG files are saved without these details.

Can I make my iPhone take JPG photos instead of HEIC?

Yes. Open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible: new photos are then saved as JPG. To have photos converted when you copy them to a computer, open Settings, then Photos, and under Transfer to Mac or PC choose Automatic.

What happens to Live Photos?

A Live Photo is a HEIC still image plus a short, separate video file. This tool converts the still image to JPG; the moving part is not included.

Why does each photo take a few seconds?

Most browsers cannot open HEIC by themselves, so the tool decodes each photo with a HEIC decoder that runs on your device. A 12-megapixel iPhone photo takes several seconds on a typical computer. Safari on a Mac, iPhone or iPad reads HEIC directly and converts faster. You can start converting while the other photos are still being read.
