How the exact age is worked out
Years, months and days are counted the way people actually count birthdays: start from the year difference, then borrow a month if the day of the target date falls before the day of birth, and borrow a year if the month is still negative after that.
Age = Target date - Date of birth, carried into years, months and days
For example, someone born March 15, 1990 is 34 years, 2 months, and 26 days old on June 10, 2024, and has lived exactly 12,506 days by that date.
Total days, weeks and hours
Total days is the full number of calendar days between the two dates. Total weeks divides that by 7 and rounds down, and total hours multiplies it by 24. These totals are exact regardless of leap years, since they come from the day count rather than the calendar breakdown.
Life lived, of 80 years

A leap day birthday
If you were born on February 29, your birthday in a non-leap year falls on the closest surviving date, which most calendars treat as March 1. The exact age and next-birthday figures above already account for this.

How does a leap year affect my age calculation?
If you were born on February 29, the calculator counts your birthday in non-leap years as landing on March 1, since February 29 does not exist that year. Leap year babies technically only have a February 29 birthday every four years. The tool accounts for this so your age-in-days count is always accurate regardless of leap years.
How many days old am I if I was born in 1990?

What is the difference between Western age and Korean age?
Western age starts at 0 at birth and adds one year each birthday. Traditional Korean year age started at 1 at birth with everyone gaining a year on New Year's Day, so it could run one or two years ahead of Western age. South Korea officially switched its legal age to the international system in June 2023.
