Five ways to split a PDF
- Extract pages: the pages you select go into one new PDF. Use it to pull a chapter, a signed page or a single form out of a long file.
- Custom ranges: each range you type becomes its own PDF, so 1-3, 4-10, 11- gives three files. Ranges may overlap.
- Every N pages: a new PDF starts after every N pages, for example every 2 pages for a stack of scanned two-page forms.
- Every page: each page becomes a separate one-page PDF.
- By file size: pages in a row are packed into as few PDFs as fit under the size you set, handy for email and upload limits.
In every mode except Custom ranges, the pages field and the thumbnails decide which pages take part, so you can leave out a cover or blank pages before you split.

What stays the same
- Pages are copied, not redrawn, so text stays selectable and images keep their full quality.
- Page size, orientation and rotation stay as they were, and web links on the pages keep working.
- The document title, author and language carry over to every new PDF.
- Bookmarks are not copied, and a password-protected PDF is saved without its password.
Your file stays on your device
This page reads and splits the PDF in your browser. The file is never uploaded, and once the page has loaded, splitting works even offline.

How do I split a PDF and extract specific pages?
Choose your PDF on this page and every page appears as a thumbnail. Click the pages you want, or type them in the Pages to extract field (for example 1-3, 5, 7-10), then press Extract pages and download the new PDF. To cut the file into several PDFs instead, choose Custom ranges, Every N pages, Every page or By file size.
Can I extract just one page from a PDF for free?
Yes. Click that page's thumbnail or type its number, press Extract pages and download a one-page PDF. There is no charge, no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.
How do I split a PDF into several files at once?

Does the PDF Split tool keep my document private?
Yes. Your PDF is read and split inside your browser by pdf.js and pdf-lib, open-source libraries served from this site. The file is never uploaded: no request carries its contents, so it stays on your device from start to finish.
How do I quickly select odd or even pages to extract from a PDF?
Press Odd or Even above the page thumbnails to select every odd or every even page at once, or type odd or even in the pages field. With Custom ranges, typing odd, even creates two PDFs, one with the odd pages and one with the even pages, which is handy for separating double-sided scans.
How does splitting by file size work?
Enter the largest size you want, for example 5 MB for an email attachment. The tool fills each PDF with as many pages in a row as fit under that size, measuring the real saved file, then starts the next one. A page that is larger than the limit on its own still gets its own PDF, and the result names those pages. 1 MB here means 1,000,000 bytes.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. The tool asks for it, checks it on your device and saves the split files without a password. PDFs protected with a certificate instead of a password cannot be opened.
Is there a page count limit when splitting a PDF in the browser?
No. The tool sets no limit on pages, file size or how often you split. Everything runs on your device, so very large PDFs, with hundreds of pages or heavy scans, depend on your device's memory and take longer to show thumbnails. The pages you can see render first, so you can start selecting right away.
